Backup and restore of installed packages on Ubuntu

To backup the list of currently installed software (e.g for a reinstall of the system), type:

sudo dpkg --get-selections > installedpackages

(and copy the file to a location which will still be available after the repartitioning and formatting of the hdd during new installation 😉 )

To reinstall the packages:

sudo dpkg --set-selections < installedpackages
sudo dselect
