Installation and first start of OpenKM

As OpenKM is a Java application, we first need to install it as prerequisite. As OpenKM only is tested with the Oracle Java version, we install that one.
It is not included in the default repositories. So we first need to add an additional repository:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/java

After that we do an update and install Java

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install oracle-java8-installer

We have to accept the license agreements and the installation proceeds.

Next step is to download the actual version of the OpenKM bundle:

After download we create our target directory and unzip it to there:

mv tomcat /opt/openkm

For a first start this should be enough. We cd the openkm/bin dir and try to start OpenKM.

cd /opt/openkm/bin
./ run

The server starts and should finally finish with a message like this:

2015-11-17 22:01:17,949 [main] INFO org.apache.coyote.http11.Http11Protocol- Starting ProtocolHandler ["http-bio-"]
2015-11-17 22:01:17,981 [main] INFO org.apache.coyote.ajp.AjpProtocol- Starting ProtocolHandler ["ajp-bio-"]
2015-11-17 22:01:17,984 [main] INFO org.apache.catalina.startup.Catalina- Server startup in 112353 ms

If everything went fine so far we can now try to access OpenKM via browser. The default URL is HOSTNAME:8080. If it works we will see the following:

There we can log in with the default admin okmAdmin and the password admin. After login we can see the OpenKM default screen:
That’s it. Basic OpenKM setup is running now.
